School Board Elections

August 19, 2024

2025 School Board Elections – Tuesday, April 1, 2025 is the Consolidated Election where
vacant school board seats for District 102 will be on the ballot. Election Day may be a long way
off, but now is the time that candidates need to start considering their future plans.
The Illinois State Board of Elections has established two critical deadlines:


-The first day that candidates can lawfully circulate nominating petitions for signatures
is August 20, 2024. 
-The period for filing nominating papers runs from November 12 through November
18, 2024. 


Five seats on the seven-member Board of Education for North Pekin-Marquette Heights School Dist. 102 will be filled at the April 1, 2025 election:

Four vacancies are for 4-year terms (full terms) which will expire in 2029

AND one vacancy for a 2-year term that expire 2027.
 

To be eligible to serve as a school board member, a candidate must be as of the date of election:
-A United States citizen;
-A resident of the state of Illinois and of the school district for at least one year preceding election;
-At least 18 years of age;
-A registered voter; and
-Not a school trustee.

 

To become a school board candidate one must:
1. File a Statement of Economic Interests with the county clerk and obtain a receipt; these
forms are available from the county clerk. 
2. Obtain and complete a nominating petition signed by at least 50 registered voters or 10%
of the voters, whichever is less; and a Statement of Candidacy. Nominating petition
forms and Statements of Candidacy are available from the county clerk or county board
of election commissioners.
