Resource for Urgent Mental Health Services for Children

A mental health crisis can occur when children can’t calm down, are uncontrollable or may be in sudden danger of hurting themselves or others.

It is a time when your child is no longer safe to himself or others or when there is a need for immediate action or intervention. Parents will find themselves using all of their energies in order to care for the child in crisis.

SASS (Screening Assessment & Support Services) provided by the Children’s Home Association is available 24 hours for a child experiencing a mental health crisis.  They visit the home (or school if you prefer), talk with the child and make recommendations for services.  The goal of the program is to make sure every child has immediate access to mental health services in a crisis.  The number is called the CARES line, it is 1-800-345-9049.

If you would like more information about this service, please feel free to contact the school social worker at 382-2172.
