School Board Elections 2021

2021 School Board Elections

Tuesday, April 6, 2021 is the Consolidated Election where vacant school board seats for District 102 will be on the ballot. Election Day may be a long way off, but now is the time that candidates need to start considering their future plans.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has established two critical deadlines:

    • The first day that candidates can lawfully circulate nominating petitions for signatures is September 22, 2020.
    • The period for filing nominating papers runs from December 14 through December 21, 2020.

Four seats on the seven-member Board of Education for North Pekin-Marquette Heights School Dist. 102 will be filled at the April 6, 2020 election. All four vacancies are for 4-year terms (full terms) which will expire in 2025.

To be eligible to serve as a school board member, a candidate must be as of the date of election:

  • A United States citizen;
  • A resident of the state of Illinois and of the school district for at least one year preceding election;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • A registered voter; and
  • Not a school trustee.

To become a school board candidate one must

  1.  File a Statement of Economic Interests with the county clerk and obtain a receipt; these forms are available from the county clerk.
  2. Obtain and complete a nominating petition signed by at least 50 registered voters or 10% of the voters, whichever is less; and a Statement of Candidacy. Nominating petition forms and Statements of Candidacy are available from the county clerk or county board of election commissioners.
