March
Reading- We will be starting our fourth reading book next week! The selections in this book will contain realistic fiction stories that concentrate on treasures and how we can share them in our lives. We will be learning many new phonics skills as well as new vocabulary words. We will also be discussing the theme, characters, setting and plot of the stories. Continue to listen to your child read every evening so your child is able to reach his/her AR goal. Ask questions about the story to check your child's comprehension of the selection.

Spelling- Our spelling words will reinforce the phonics skill that is introduced each week. Our lists will consist of words with long a (ai, ay), long e (ea), long o (oa, ow), long i (ie, igh), compound words and words with suffixes (ly, ful). The students are really improving on their spelling skills when writing the weekly dictation sentences. It seems to help when the children practice writing sentences at home.
Grammar- The grammar lessons will concentrate on adjectives and how to use them in our writing. The students will learn that adjectives can tell about and compare people, places, or things. They can can also name colors, describe size, identify what kind and tell how many. We continue to review and reinforce all of the previously introduced grammar skills when completing our daily writing and dictation sentences.

Math- The children will be learning addition math facts with sums of 10. They will also learn to identify a missing addend. When we count money, it will include dimes, nickels, and pennies.
Units- We have completed our units on Abe Lincoln and George Washington. The children had so much fun learning about these two important presidents. We will be starting our Space unit soon!
