National Suicide Prevention Month September 2020

It is important for everyone to be ready to help any person who is considering suicide.

Warning signs include:

Talking about wanting to die or to kill oneself

Looking for ways to kill oneself

Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live

Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain

Talking about being a burden

Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs

Acting anxious or agitated, possibly behaving recklessly

Sleeping too little or too much

Withdrawing or feeling isolated

Showing rage or talking about revenge

Displaying extreme mood swings.

Do not be afraid to ask.  Asking about suicide does not increase suicide risk - it will help.  Even if the person exhibiting warning signs is not thinking about suicide, they likely still need your attention and help.

To get help, call the crisis hotline at 1-800-273-TALK, or there is now a text service.

Text "START" to 741-741 and you will be connected to someone who can help.
