No Firearms Signs

New Signs - Parents and students may notice a sign that is going up on school buildings across the state. If you see these signs when you enter one of our schools, please do not be alarmed as our district is keeping in compliance with the new law.

Beginning Jan. 5, firearm owners in Illinois could begin applying for a license to carry a concealed gun. The Firearm Concealed Carry Act identifies 25 areas where concealed firearms are prohibited, including schools.

The law requires schools to post a sign provided by the Illinois State Police that states the carrying of firearms into the building is prohibited.

As required by the law, the sign itself must have a white background and a depiction of a handgun in black ink with a red circle around it and a diagonal slash across the handgun (the "no firearms" symbol). The symbol must be 4 inches in diameter, and the entire sign must measure 4 inches by 6 inches in size.
